Dear Kim:

Woman cannot live by theater alone. Well, some women can, but not this woman. One of the greatest pleasures of going to Louisville every year is the mix of people that are there.

This weekend, Louisville was host to the world's largest trucking convention. Some 20,000 truckers or owners of trucking companies descended from around the world and many of them were staying at the Galt. Then there was a big bluegrass festival and people could be found spontaneously picking in all corners of the hotel, in the atrium and by the elevators at all hours. And there was also a national Mary Kay Cosmetics conference being held.

I stepped into an elevator, and one Mary Kay Cosmetics salesperson offered to give me a facial.

"Just come to room 1506, darlin." Any time after 10."

Like the cross roads of America.

(Kim: These conventions are modern day tribes. I got a kick out of a photo convention I went to in Colorado Springs. There was also a miltary convention going on...and they had all the cameras and were feverously taking pictures of one another.")

If I had to leave Little Cayman, this was a way to go.

Later,

Joan
